  • Second coup d’état by General Fulgencio Batista, three months prior to the general elections which seemed to promise victory to the Ortodoxos candidate. Batista installs a repressive, reactionary and pro-US  dictatorship.
  • Fidel condemns the dictatorship in a newspaper article.
